So, here’s the deal…

We should go ahead and plan on getting our tickets to the event together, so our seats will be together. Tickets don’t seem to be on sell yet, but perhaps in about a month, when BJ goes back to school they will be. Several other people in the church also want to go, so I’m thinking once tickets are on sale we need to get the word out about price and set a deadline for if they want to get tickets along with us. Yebba, yebba, that’s all folks!

THE GREAT NEWT HUNT EXTRAVAGANZA

So the day started off innocently enough. A trip to our local area Wal-Mart. But bring Hannah to any store, especially with a gift card burning the flesh off of her just beneath her pocket and you’re in for an adventure.

So after we had browsed the clearance Christmas things (and Hannah’s ‘broken record’ requests had peaked) the kids and I  headed off to the pet department. Hannah wanted a fish… but on the way it dawned on me that Hannah HAD a beta fish, that she had disowned and mom takes care of as the ‘family pet’. In my dumbfounded shock and horror at this rememberance I confronted the girl on the issue, to which I believe she had totally even forgot we already HAD a fish. (Shows how much she cares for the fish!!!) So I was like, ‘there’s no way we are getting another for Mom to take care of ‘. With that however, we still took a gander at the beta fish while we were there, and yes, the females are the ugliest things going, and happened to notice “Fire Bellied Newts”. COOL thingies.

So I thought perhaps Hannah could get one of those instead. I didn’t know anything about them however, so I suggested we go back home and do a little research first. So we did. Walmart had also had a slot for “fire bellied toads” of which they were out of, which were just as cool. So after our research we decided to go to the Denham walmart since they usually have a larger selection of products and get a toad as well as a newt. So we drove to Denham, stopping by our local pet store on the was there to see waht they had and get some more practical info.

We eventually made it to the Denham Wal-Mart, said HI to Amber on our way in the store, went to the pet area, only to find that they had fire bellied NOTHING there. Disappointed, but now determined we headed back to Central, throwing another goodbye to Amber as we left.

Back in Central we got 3 newts, one for each of us ‘kids’, and a terrarium. Headed BACK to the local pet store, got a warming light and rocks and finally headed home victorious, proud new newt owners. Dave named his Phoenix, in honor of the legendary firebird and the name of his blog. Mine and Hannah’s are just ‘Newt 1″ and “Newt 2″ for now until we come up with names.

Christmas 2006, the ‘Great Christmas Tree Stack Up’ strikes again. After a late night at the movies why not make it later? So we did. I came prepared with head-to-toe black and appropriate black face paint and a scheme for some honest-to-goodness-old-times-sake -why-have-we-missed-all-these-last-few-years fun. Here’s the pics for all to enjoy! :D

Mediocrity

Filed under: Uncategorized — Holly @ 9:01 pm

Yes, I know I didn’t come out with a wild and crazy FF, but I feel mediocrity is needed on occasion :D. This will be an easy one for everyone to participate in (without highlighting our OCD habits). i’ll be posting some more life highlights when i get the chance… my life really can be weird. Strike that, IS really weird.

And before you “comment” anything… :D yes, this is being posted on a Thursday BJ… I’ve got a 12 tomorrow. Before 5 am and after 8 pm didn’t seem a good time to post.

Fifteen Great Things In Life Right Now

Friday Fifteen

FF’s can go two ways… funny or informative

The question is, of course… which direction to take?

Well… take it however you want :D

  1. God really is GOOD
  2. I can wear scrubs to work for the rest of my life… “HaHaHa”, I  laugh at the “business casual” people.
  3. “The Great Newt Hunt” can occur spontaneously (details to follow)
  4. Pineapple Orange Juice is once again readily available at your local  WalMart.
  5. “Bananas” DVDs for Christmas… who needs ab machines?
  6. I love people on sedative/hypnotics… endless entertainment
  7. My pay ($) will now double :D
  8. ‘Nertz’ is now widespread fun, among everyone!
  9. Ski trip is coming up soon… bring on the SNOW!!!
  10. My State Board will be passed soon… along with this gnawing feeling in the center of my chest
  11. One day soon I will actually read the owner’s manual to my phone and figure out what that mysterious “E” means
  12. Scarves are a new-found delight
  13. My bed is like a haven of delightful warmth and softness, memory foam underneath and three comforters on top.
  14. I have to come up for a name for my newt…
  15. We no longer have to be satisfied with the “super duper reindeer  pooper” with brown jellybelly’s, but have progressed to the “amazing walking penguin pooper” with multicolored candies.

15 Picky Food Habits

Filed under: Uncategorized — Holly @ 3:13 pm
Friday Fifteen
  1. I usually eat the foods on my plate one at a time, but I don’t try to, it just happens like that.
  2. I can’t eat breakfast if I’m up really early (going to school/work/etc).
  3. This is for Dave: He doesn’t eat all of the French fry if his hands are unwashed (doesn’t eat the part his fingers are holding)
  4. Similarly, he holds his chicken nuggets with a napkin to avoid the germs.
  5. Dave also will not eat something if he SUSPECTS that it may have a bite of fat or gristle in it.
  6. I don’t like raw tomatoes, celery, or onions, but do like them cooked.
  7. I don’t like mushrooms, no matter HOW you cook them.
  8. I don’t like suishi, I tried it, I really did, but it’s one of those things you have to “acquire” a taste for… why would you want to do that?
  9. I don’t eat my meat rare
  10. Hey, get a plate! hannah and dave have this thing where they think it’s okay to walk around and eat with no plate… where were they born? I’m not seeing how we have THAT many genes in common.
  11. I CAN’T drink milk if it is at all warm.
  12. I think i like shreaded mini-wheat cereal because it is the oly cereal you don’t have to ‘inhale’ before it gets soggy. Yuck, soggy cereal and warm milk.
  13. I have to have a clean kitchen before I can start cooking. if things are messy cluttered/dishes in the sink/counter… nothing’s going to happen until I clean up first.
  14. okay, still working on it… I have till midnight.

The Nativity

Ms. Sara said something a few weeks ago that I’ve still been mulling over. She mentioned how we view the “nativity” in such a familiar way, such a “sweet” scene. When in fact it is such an surreal, mind-blowing, supernatural, sacred thing. We look at the familiar scene (that we have created), with the baby in the cradle, mary, joseph and some farm animals gathered around with such matter-of-factness. It’s one of those things that we just take for granted… something that is so mind-blowing that we as humans cannot even grasp.

Let it snow. . .

Here it is… what you’ve all been waiting for, a white christmas in Louisiana. :D This stuff is ridiculous! :) Dad bought some while he was on vacation and gave me a box… I’ve got to bring it around for ya’ll to play with too… I wish I could get the video on here, but can’t, do click here  http://www.snow-powder.com to watch (it’s short james!) the incredibly cheesy infomercial ad. The cheezier the better, huh? The news reporter is also wonderfully obnoxious.

Kids, you gotta love ‘em…

most of the time :D. I watched the kids during leadership. I really had fun… kids will be kids. After they were all exhausted from playing ‘gym hockey’ it really brought a twinkle to my eye and a crooked smile to my face to roll out about a 100 feet length of 4 foot wide newsprint on the gym floor for them to color/trace people/draw on. Ack! What fun, just seeing that many possibilities is fun! They had a blast and so did I!

You know, I would have put one of those amazing pictures of crayons in all of their perfect symmetry and array… but that’s not how they stay with kids… this is what the box of loose crayons really looks like…
